With France’s recent public ban on the burka, the female Muslim attire that covers the face and body, fear of extremist action in France is growing. al-Qaeda threatened France with revenge if the burka was prohibited and numerous bomb threats have followed the ban.
France’s intelligence agency discovered one woman’s claim at suicide-bombing on public transport.
Taking this threat seriously, security was enforced on all major transport systems, including stop-and-search procedures. The Eiffel Tower also fell under concern after the ban, causing an estimate of 2,000 people to evacuate the site.
There has been a reported 190 threats in France this year so far, and France’s overall security is stationed at ‘red,’ the second highest level.
