The Latin Music Festival La Linea 13, which aims to showcase the contribution of contemporary artists in the country’s capital, will take place in April.
The musical contribution of America to the rest of the world has been fundamental to the history of this art. From Carlos Gardel, Celia Cruz and Silvio Rodríguez to Shakira, Juanes or Ricky Martin, Latin culture has crossed borders and reached the English-speaking world.
However, other styles of Spanish music such as electronic music, cumbia, hip-hop, flamenco and fado have an increasing impact and take on a bigger role.
Therefore, La Linea 13 will take place over several days in April and in various locations such as concert rooms and clubs in the city involving significant performances and artists well known in their respective musical spheres.
La Raze, the Latin hip-hop festival in London taking place on Friday the 19th of April, will bring together Street Souls, Los Ministros de Havana, Proyecto Viva Cuba, Indio Lyrico and Sangre Latina among others.
On the Thursday before there will be a performance of the same genre by Mala Rodríguez, the revolutionary artist who has performed with Calle 13 and Nelly Furtado among others.
In addition, Meridian Brothers and their mix of psychedelic Latin rhythms arrive in the United Kingdom for the first time on the 25th of April with their creator, the Colombian guitarist Eblis Álvarez. Joining them are the Argentinean Chancha Via Circuito and El G, who mix cumbia with new electro-reggaeton to make a unique style.
Folk music will also have its place in the festival. Ana Moura, the new voice of fado from Portugal and Spain, will perform her fifth album on the 20th of April, and Buika, Latin Grammy winner in 2010 and exponent of a new form of flamenco and folk songs with jazz, blues and African influences, will perform on the 18th.
Over two weeks, these artists will be joined by Havana D’Primera, A Curva da Cintura, la Banda Estrellas de Sinaloa de Gérman Lizarraga, the pianist Marcelo Bratke, TangOpera Duo and Wara, among others.
Dates: 12th – 15th April 2013.
