On 25 of Aprill will take place a screening of this documentary as part of Eliades Ochoa’s headline performance at the Royal Albert Hall.
The organisers of this year’s La Linea Festival have revealed that the new “Buena Vista Social Club: Adios” documentary film will be screened for the audience immediately after Buena Vista Social Club founding member Eliades Ochoa’s concert at the Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday 25th April.
Directed by British filmmaker Lucy Walker, the documentary takes a last look at the influential Buena Vista Social Club phenomenon, a project that started out as a one-off studio recording between a selection of Cuba’s most acclaimed musicians and American Guitarist Ry Cooder, brought together by World Circuit’s Nick Gold.
Acting as a sequel to Wim Wenders’s original documentary in 1999 that elevated the group to cult status, “Buena Vista Social Club: Adios” includes footage from the group’s performance at Obama’s Whitehouse, and on their world farewell tour in 2015, with interviews, political and historical background and archive footage interweaved throughout.
The film is a welcomed addition to this year’s multifarious bill for La Linea, which runs from April 20th to 30th across key venues in London with performances from the likes of Mexrrissey, Golden-Globe winning vocalist Gisela Joao, hotly tipped electronica outfit Ariwo, the UK premiere of a special tribute to Latin American composers in Hollywood, led by Mexican Institute of Sound Camilo Lara, who credits include Pixar’s latest feature film Coco, and many more.
La Linea is produced by Como No, and showcases the Latin contribution to the wider musical world with new artists, new collaborations and new projects in London every April. Tickets are on sale now for all shows from www.lalineafestival.com. The ticket price for Eliades Ochoa, which starts from £25, includes the screening of Buena Vista Social Club: Adios (PG).
