In the UK capital, where dreams can become true, four young photographers will show their work during an informal tour on the 19th of September.
In 1971, The Photographers’ Gallery was founded in London with the mission “to champion photography for everyone”.
During the year, it has exhibited, to the British audience, the work of international photographers such as Robert Capa, Sebastião Salgado, Andreas Gursky and Taryn Simon. At the same time, it has promoted the body of work of national photographers like Martin Parr, Zineb Sedira, Nick Knight and Corinne Day.
The Photographers’ Gallery worked through the years to stimulate a deep public understanding and a stronger engagement with photography and its importance in our modern society.
More than this, it is aiming to be the UK’s leading photographic gallery with an international impact, so at the beginning of 2019 it launched the “TPG new talent annual exhibition and mentoring programme”.
Through a scrupulous process, eight emerging UK-based artists have been selected for this first edition: Rhiannon Adam, Chiara Avagliano, Alberto Feijóo, Adama Jalloh, Seungwon Jung, Alice Myers, Giovanna Petrocchi and Miguel Procença. In the beginning, the selection was made by the TPG’s curatorial team and the finalists have been chosen by the respected US artist Jim Goldberg.
The winners, a homogeneous international group of artists, have been allowed to show their work at the gallery, which will be on show until the 6 of October 2019.
Besides, each artist is receiving a one-year tutoring program. They are closely working with TPG curators to identify areas of their work that it can be improved.
Also, they will be paired with a selected mentor from the creative field, which will follow them in their artistic growth, will advise them and will provide critiques related to their work. Moreover, four exhibiting artists: Chiara Avagliano, Alberto Feijóo, Adama Jalloh and Giovanna Petrocchi will hold an informal tour of the exposition, where they will explain, show and discuss their work.
Date and place: Thursday, 19th September 2019 at 6.30 pm. At The Photographers’ Gallery, 16-18 Ramillies St, Soho, London W1F 7LW. For further information, please click here.
