A British newspaper said that this film, directed by Alejandro Landes, is somewhere between “Apocalypse Now”, “Lord of the Flies” and “Embrace of the Serpent”, three films that have been critically acclaimed. The fact is that it will arrive in Britain on 25th October.
It tells the story of “A pack of young rebels who watch over a hostage (Julianne Nicholson) and a cow. When their mission is under threat, they begin a journey that will put their established order and brotherhood at risk. Survival can be a wild game”.
These young people live at the edges of the law and inhabit what seems to be a Latin American country. They have their own rules, their own goals, and they are determined to survive at any cost.
The narrative is wider and touches on key points that make this Colombian production a film which has already become well-known in the world of cinematography.
In fact, “Monos” has received awards and international recognition, such as the “Best Film” Prize at the BFI London Film Festival 2019, and the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award at the Sundance Festival 2019, among others.
It was also chosen as a Colombian candidate for the “Best International Feature Film” category (formerly known as the Best Foreign Language Film category) at the Oscar Awards 2020. It will also represent Colombia at the Goya Awards.
Alejandro Landes is the director of “Porfirio” and the documentary “Cocalero”. In this film he is joined by a cast of young Colombian actors, including Moisés Arias (Hannah Montana) and with music composed by British composer Mica Levi (composer of Under The Skin and Oscar nominee for her work on Jackie).
The technical team consists of: Director: Alejandro Landes; Script: Alejandro Landes and Alexis Dos Santos; Based on a story by: Alejandro Landes; Production: Alejandro Landes and Fernando Epstein; Producers: Santiago Zapata and Cristina Landes; Director of Photography: Jasper Wolf; Art Director: Daniela Schneider; Editing: Yorgos Mayropsaridis / Ted Guard / Santiago Otheguy; Music: Mica Levi.
