Foto de\u00a0 Marcos Ortiz.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><strong>Marcos Ortiz F.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>El d\u00eda en que Jaime Fl\u00f3rez lleg\u00f3 de su natal Colombia a estudiar ingl\u00e9s a Londres jam\u00e1s imagin\u00f3 lo que se ven\u00eda por delante.<\/p>\n<p>Era septiembre de 1984 y con 28 a\u00f1os de edad dejaba atr\u00e1s Medell\u00edn y algunos estudios de Ingenier\u00eda. \u201cYo cre\u00eda que hablaba un poquito de ingl\u00e9s, pero llegu\u00e9 y me di cuenta que no\u201d, relata 32 a\u00f1os y medio m\u00e1s tarde.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVine queriendo estudiar ingl\u00e9s, no vine buscando trabajo, aunque sab\u00eda que iba a tener que trabajar para sostener los estudios. Quer\u00eda venir a conocer Europa y el pa\u00eds m\u00e1s viable para m\u00ed era Inglaterra\u201d, agrega.<\/p>\n<p>Su plan inicial de 3 meses en el pa\u00eds se ampli\u00f3 3 m\u00e1s. \u00abLuego me di cuenta de que necesitaba 6 meses m\u00e1s en el Reino Unido y antes de darme cuenta ya llevaba un a\u00f1o en el pa\u00eds. Estaba entusiasmado porque estaba aprendiendo m\u00e1s ingl\u00e9s, as\u00ed que me qued\u00e9 un a\u00f1o m\u00e1s\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Afortunadamente, la facilidad con la que aprendi\u00f3 este nuevo idioma no se vio afectada por las dificultades que experiment\u00f3 durante sus dos primeros trabajos.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-264252 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/theprisma.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Colombia-Bogota-trabajo-transporte-ciudad-Pixabay-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"419\" height=\"279\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theprisma.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Colombia-Bogota-trabajo-transporte-ciudad-Pixabay-4.jpg 922w, https:\/\/theprisma.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Colombia-Bogota-trabajo-transporte-ciudad-Pixabay-4-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/theprisma.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Colombia-Bogota-trabajo-transporte-ciudad-Pixabay-4-431x287.jpg 431w, https:\/\/theprisma.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/Colombia-Bogota-trabajo-transporte-ciudad-Pixabay-4-862x575.jpg 862w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 419px) 100vw, 419px\" \/>\u201cAl principio trabaj\u00e9 en limpieza por un mes y medio y luego en la cocina en un restaurante por otro mes y medio. No me fue muy bien, porque no era muy bueno, no ten\u00eda mucho \u00e9xito. Trabajaba muy duro, pero no les gustaba y de ambos me echaron\u201d, recuerda hoy.<\/p>\n<p>Mejor suerte corri\u00f3 de barman en un pub, donde alcanz\u00f3 a desempe\u00f1arse por 6 meses.<\/p>\n<p>M\u00e1s adelante vendr\u00edan 5 a\u00f1os como mensajero en moto, entregando y recogiendo paquetes y cartas. \u201cAh\u00ed ya me fue excelente. Me encantaba el trabajo, estuve muy feliz conociendo el pa\u00eds y Londres. Y me pagaban. Era independiente, trabajaba seis u ocho meses al a\u00f1o y luego me iba a viajar o estudiar\u201d. Tras perderle el gusto a los continuos recorridos sobre dos ruedas, Jaime se inclin\u00f3 por la traducci\u00f3n y las clases de espa\u00f1ol y durante a\u00f1os le ense\u00f1\u00f3 a adultos de todas las nacionalidades el idioma de Cervantes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-263032 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/theprisma.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/villa-de-leyva-Colombia-campesino-Latino-Pixabay-1-e1686897116904.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"417\" height=\"269\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theprisma.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/villa-de-leyva-Colombia-campesino-Latino-Pixabay-1-e1686897116904.jpg 923w, https:\/\/theprisma.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/villa-de-leyva-Colombia-campesino-Latino-Pixabay-1-e1686897116904-300x194.jpg 300w, https:\/\/theprisma.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/villa-de-leyva-Colombia-campesino-Latino-Pixabay-1-e1686897116904-431x279.jpg 431w, https:\/\/theprisma.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/villa-de-leyva-Colombia-campesino-Latino-Pixabay-1-e1686897116904-862x558.jpg 862w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 417px) 100vw, 417px\" \/>En Londres, Jaime ya hab\u00eda estudiado ingenier\u00eda en sonido, pero en un nuevo vuelco ahora decidi\u00f3 ingresar a Spanish and Latin American Studies.<\/p>\n<p>Fue tras esta nueva aventura que durante cinco a\u00f1os asisti\u00f3 todas las semanas a la hoy extinta c\u00e1rcel de mujeres de Holloway, donde se desempe\u00f1\u00f3 como profesor de cultura latinoamericana.<\/p>\n<p>Pero su vida dar\u00eda otro giro. \u201cDespu\u00e9s de hacer traducci\u00f3n y tras haber ense\u00f1ado espa\u00f1ol por mucho tiempo hice un curso de profesor de ingl\u00e9s y empec\u00e9 a trabajar como profesor de ingl\u00e9s en muchos colegios. Le ense\u00f1aba a asi\u00e1ticos, africanos, rusos, checos, toda clase de gente\u201d, dice. Jaime repasa su vida sentado tras un computador en su propia academia de ingl\u00e9s que inaugur\u00f3 en el verano de 2016. Hasta all\u00ed, bajo los arcos que sostienen la l\u00ednea del tren en Elephant &amp; Castle, todos los d\u00edas llegan unos 40 alumnos provenientes de Colombia, M\u00e9xico, Argentina, Ecuador, Bolivia, Rep\u00fablica Dominicana, Cuba, Somal\u00eda, Espa\u00f1a e Italia.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-266209\" src=\"https:\/\/theprisma.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Ciudad-calle-Colombia-Pixabay.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"382\" height=\"573\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theprisma.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Ciudad-calle-Colombia-Pixabay.jpg 683w, https:\/\/theprisma.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Ciudad-calle-Colombia-Pixabay-133x200.jpg 133w, https:\/\/theprisma.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Ciudad-calle-Colombia-Pixabay-431x646.jpg 431w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 382px) 100vw, 382px\" \/>Todos ellos llegan con la misma ilusi\u00f3n con la que lleg\u00f3 \u00e9l ese verano de 1984. El profesor Fl\u00f3rez se siente en casa. Aun as\u00ed, no olvida sus ra\u00edces. \u201cVuelvo a Colombia cada cinco a\u00f1os, no tan seguido\u201d, explica.<\/p>\n<p>Y agrega: \u201cCuando voy es un placer. Hay mucho progreso, mucha pujanza, mucha iniciativa, muchos deseos de vivir, pero sigue siendo dif\u00edcil porque uno ya est\u00e1 acostumbrado y adaptado aqu\u00ed\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEcho de menos el pa\u00eds completo. A nivel emocional, los amigos y la familia; pero tambi\u00e9n los lugares, los colores, los olores, la geograf\u00eda. Uno sigue perteneciendo\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Jaime Fl\u00f3rez, hoy de 61 a\u00f1os, concluye: \u201cTodos los d\u00edas me imagino volviendo, pero nunca ocurre.
