Que el desarrollo de las fuentes renovables de energ\u00eda ahora no es solo posible sino tambi\u00e9n imponderable, en detrimento de la quema de combustibles f\u00f3siles y en defensa de la sustentabilidad social y econ\u00f3mica, es una tesis cada vez m\u00e1s defendida por organizaciones relacionadas con el tema.<\/p>\n

Un estudio reciente de la Agencia Internacional de Energ\u00eda Renovable (Irena, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s), muestra que m\u00e1s de la mitad de las fuentes de este tipo agregadas en 2019 logr\u00f3 costos m\u00e1s bajos que las nuevas y m\u00e1s rentables plantas de carb\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

En promedio, considera la investigaci\u00f3n, la energ\u00eda solar fotovoltaica y la\u00a0e\u00f3lica terrestre cuestan menos que mantener en funcionamiento muchas plantas de carb\u00f3n existentes, y los resultados de las subastas energ\u00e9ticas muestran que esta tendencia se acelera.<\/p>\n

Reemplazar los 500 gigavatios (GW) m\u00e1s costosos de carb\u00f3n con energ\u00eda solar fotovoltaica y e\u00f3lica terrestre el pr\u00f3ximo a\u00f1o reducir\u00eda los costos del sistema de energ\u00eda en hasta 23 mil millones de d\u00f3lares cada a\u00f1o, abund\u00f3 el an\u00e1lisis.
\nAsimismo, agrega, reducir\u00eda las emisiones anuales en alrededor de 1,8 gigatoneladas de di\u00f3xido de carbono, equivalente al cinco % del total del gas emitido a la atm\u00f3sfera en 2019.<\/p>\n

Tambi\u00e9n generar\u00eda un est\u00edmulo de inversi\u00f3n de 940 mil millones de d\u00f3lares, que equivale a alrededor del uno % del Producto Interno Bruto mundial.<\/p>\n

Otra de las ventajas de este tipo de energ\u00eda es que la misma cantidad de dinero invertida en ella hoy produce m\u00e1s capacidad nueva que la que tendr\u00eda hace una d\u00e9cada.<\/p>\n

Una investigaci\u00f3n igualmente reciente publicada por el Programa de Naciones Unidas para el Medio Ambiente (Pnuma), concluy\u00f3 que la capacidad de energ\u00eda renovable, exceptuando grandes represas hidroel\u00e9ctricas, creci\u00f3 184 GW durante 2019. Seg\u00fan el organismo, la ca\u00edda de los costos de las alternativas limpias brinda la oportunidad de impulsar la acci\u00f3n clim\u00e1tica en los paquetes de recuperaci\u00f3n de Covid-19.<\/p>\n

Aunque la adici\u00f3n del pasado a\u00f1o signific\u00f3 12% m\u00e1s que la nueva capacidad de 2018, la inversi\u00f3n en d\u00f3lares en 2019 fue solo 1% m\u00e1s alto que el a\u00f1o anterior, con poco m\u00e1s de 282 mil millones de d\u00f3lares, ahonda el an\u00e1lisis.<\/p>\n

Los costos de electricidad de las nuevas plantas solares fotovoltaicas en la segunda mitad de 2019 fueron 83% m\u00e1s bajos que una d\u00e9cada antes.<\/p>\n

\u201cSi los gobiernos aprovechan el precio cada vez m\u00e1s bajo de las energ\u00edas renovables para poner la energ\u00eda limpia en el coraz\u00f3n de la recuperaci\u00f3n econ\u00f3mica de Covid-19, pueden dar un gran paso hacia un mundo natural saludable, que es la mejor p\u00f3liza de seguro contra las pandemias mundiales\u201d, considera el director ejecutivo del Programa, Inger Andersen.<\/p>\n

De acuerdo con el reporte, la pandemia de Covid-19 condujo a una menor generaci\u00f3n de electricidad a base de ese combustible f\u00f3sil causado, fundamentalmente, por limitaciones de liquidez y falta de ventas. Se estima entonces que la demanda mundial de importaciones de carb\u00f3n podr\u00eda disminuir en 7% para fines de este a\u00f1o debido al efecto combinado de la pandemia de Covid-19 y la dura competencia del gas, alerta el an\u00e1lisis.<\/p>\n

La capacidad de generaci\u00f3n de puestos laborales que tiene hoy el campo de las energ\u00edas renovables es importante si se toma en cuenta el triste saldo de desempleados que el paso de la pandemia de Covid-19 dejar\u00e1 en el mundo.<\/p>\n

De un comunicado del Consejo Global de la Energ\u00eda E\u00f3lica (GWEC, por sus siglas en ingl\u00e9s) se desprende que la generaci\u00f3n el\u00e9ctrica a trav\u00e9s del viento es uno de los sectores de m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido crecimiento en el mundo, y podr\u00eda crear casi cuatro millones de empleos directos e indirectos.<\/p>\n

Adem\u00e1s, generar\u00eda inversiones anuales adicionales cuyo monto m\u00e1s bajo superar\u00eda los 207 mil millones de d\u00f3lares, siempre que la capacidad e\u00f3lica supere los dos teravatios.<\/p>\n

Las inversiones en este tipo de fuente, y de otras amigables con el medio ambiente, son vitales para crear la infraestructura del futuro en pos de econom\u00edas m\u00e1s resistentes y sostenibles, al tiempo que proporcionan a los pa\u00edses y ciudadanos una energ\u00eda m\u00e1s asequible, menos emisiones de carbono y mayor seguridad energ\u00e9tica, apunt\u00f3 la informaci\u00f3n.
