Subi\u00f3 por primera vez a un escenario cuando ten\u00eda cinco a\u00f1os, su madre hab\u00eda quedado af\u00f3nica y \u00e9l la sustituy\u00f3, descubri\u00f3 entonces no solo la forma con que ganar\u00eda el sustento de toda su vida, sino el camino a la fama. <\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Ten\u00eda 20 a\u00f1os cuando naci\u00f3 el \u201cPeque\u00f1o Vagabundo\u201d<\/em>: apareci\u00f3 por primera vez en un corto en 1914 con su sombrero de bomb\u00edn, pantal\u00f3n holgado y chaqueta apretada, unos zapatos tres tallas m\u00e1s grandes y bast\u00f3n de ca\u00f1a.<\/p>\n

La \u00faltima vez que visti\u00f3 esas ropas fue en 1936, en la pel\u00edcula \u201cTiempos mModernos\u201d<\/em>, una pel\u00edcula que mantiene la vitalidad de su tesis y la magia de sus gestos en esta \u00e9poca de cine sonoro y efectos especiales.<\/p>\n

Hace 80 a\u00f1os de aquel suceso, Nueva York fue testigo de la gran premier de esta cinta. Corr\u00edan tiempos de crisis, de tragos amargos despu\u00e9s de la Gran Depresi\u00f3n y la cinta lleg\u00f3 cargada de cr\u00edticas.<\/p>\n

Los ricos no la vieron con buenos ojos y a pesar de que funcion\u00f3 muy bien en la taquilla norteamericana, fue mejor recibida en Europa.<\/p>\n

Era un Charlot vagabundo diferente: pobre y obrero. Y si bien cambi\u00f3 el bast\u00f3n y el sombrero y se enfund\u00f3 en un overol, sigui\u00f3 con el mismo frenes\u00ed de defender el amor y la felicidad.<\/p>\n

Desquiciado pero siempre simp\u00e1tico, result\u00f3 en una especie de Quijote moderno que enfrenta a las m\u00e1quinas que lo devoran y casi termina molido por sus engranajes.<\/p>\n

Por primera vez en la historia de su filmograf\u00eda, en \u201cTiempos Modernos\u201d<\/em> Chaplin dio voz a Charlot y despu\u00e9s de dos d\u00e9cadas de permanecer en silencio, el Peque\u00f1o Vagabundo canta.<\/p>\n

\"\"Fiel a su deseo de expresarse en un modo que todos pudieran comprender, rompe las barreras del idioma cuando olvida la letra del tema y arma su propio galimat\u00edas musical, una exquisita jerigonza ling\u00fc\u00edstica.<\/p>\n

Chaplin pretend\u00eda incluir di\u00e1logos y todav\u00eda se conservan algunos de los archivos con pruebas de voz: al final, los resultados no lo convencieron y cambi\u00f3 de idea.<\/p>\n

Cuando lo sonoro aparec\u00eda como una novedad en el s\u00e9ptimo arte, \u00e9l sigui\u00f3 apostando por el gesto inteligente y la m\u00edmica.<\/p>\n

Aun as\u00ed, no erradic\u00f3 las voces y dot\u00f3 a las m\u00e1quinas del poder de hablar y ordenar a los obreros. Algunos creen que \u201cTiempos modernos\u201d<\/em> es una cr\u00edtica a la entonces naciente sociedad industrial y al ‘american way of life’. Otros la ven como un canto optimista frente a las dificultades de aquella \u00e9poca. Dicen que, a \u00faltima hora, Chaplin cambi\u00f3 el final. Hab\u00eda pensado en uno mucho m\u00e1s triste, donde Gamine y el desempleado Vagabundo -otra vez, de traje ra\u00eddo, bast\u00f3n y sombrero bomb\u00edn- no acabaran juntos.<\/p>\n

\"Chaplin<\/em>Pero el adi\u00f3s del m\u00edtico personaje -que hizo llorar y re\u00edr por 22 a\u00f1os a los cin\u00e9filos de todo el mundo- no pod\u00eda defraudar a la alegr\u00eda. Charles Chaplin agarra la mano de Paulette Godard y se se\u00f1ala con el dedo \u00edndice su boca, un solo pedido: sonr\u00ede.<\/p>\n

Y mientras suena la m\u00fasica de Smile<\/em>, otra genialidad sonora del brit\u00e1nico, la c\u00e1mara los ve alejarse de espaldas, caminando quiz\u00e1s hacia la eternidad.<\/p>\n

Chaplin, quien naciera hace 128 a\u00f1os,\u00a0 realiz\u00f3 80 pel\u00edculas\u00a0 y compuso 500 melod\u00edas propias que serv\u00edan de banda sonora a sus producciones.<\/p>\n

En 1917 construy\u00f3 su propio estudio y all\u00ed rod\u00f3 \u201cLa quimera del oro\u201d<\/em>, \u201cTiempos Modernos\u201d<\/em> y \u201cEl gran dictador\u201d<\/em>, que sorprendi\u00f3 a todos cuando finalmente Chaplin dio voz a los personajes.<\/p>\n

De las pel\u00edculas realizadas por \u00e9l de 1914 a 1966 solo cinco fueron habladas. \u201cEl gran dictador\u201d<\/em> estremeci\u00f3, sobre todo, por su cr\u00edtica frontal al r\u00e9gimen nazi.<\/p>\n

\"cine-film-pixabay-a-2\"Chaplin fue candidato al premio Nobel de la Paz en 1948, fue nombrado caballero comendador de la Orden del Imperio Brit\u00e1nico en 1975 y gan\u00f3 una estrella con su nombre en el Paseo de la Fama de Hollywood en 1970, pero nunca logr\u00f3 el premio Oscar en la categor\u00eda de actuaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

Bajo acusaciones de simpatizar con el comunismo, Charles Chaplin fue expulsado de Estados Unidos en 1952 y comenz\u00f3 a vivir en su residencia en Corsier-sur-Vevey, en Suiza. All\u00ed poco a poco se fue apagando su salud, hasta que a los 88 a\u00f1os, en la navidad de 1977 muri\u00f3 mientras dorm\u00eda. (PL)<\/p>\n
