\u201cLa isla del tesoro\u00bb<\/em> (<\/strong>Treasure island)<\/em> de Robert Lewis Stevenson es una historia ficticia, as\u00ed que no tiene sentido intentar hacerse rico buscando en el archivo del autor un mapa con una X que marque la ubicaci\u00f3n de un tesoro enterrado en una isla desierta.<\/p>\n

El libro es una historia de aventuras escrita para j\u00f3venes lectores -aunque el texto est\u00e1 repleto de lenguaje n\u00e1utico y su atractivo como libro infantil puede apreciarse mejor en forma de novela gr\u00e1fica o pel\u00edcula-, pero los adultos le han encontrado valor como historia de madurez ambientada en una \u00e9poca de pirater\u00eda del siglo XVIII. El escenario es real, pero la historia es puramente imaginativa, lo que difumina las r\u00edgidas distinciones entre realidad y ficci\u00f3n. El significado de un t\u00e9rmino puede residir en y a trav\u00e9s de su relaci\u00f3n con su opuesto.<\/p>\n

El siglo XVIII fue la \u00e9poca del comercio de esclavos y de la participaci\u00f3n de la Gran Breta\u00f1a colonial en el transporte de esclavos de \u00c1frica a Am\u00e9rica. El tema, no expl\u00edcito en \u00abLa isla del tesoro\u00bb<\/em>, es el obsceno trasfondo del empresariado mar\u00edtimo brit\u00e1nico, y a ello responde la artista mauriciana Bayjoo en sus im\u00e1genes superpuestas a las p\u00e1ginas de la bell\u00edsima y \u00fanica edici\u00f3n de Four Corners Books de un relato ficticio sobre una isla con un tesoro il\u00edcito.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/strong>El verdadero y muy l\u00edcito tesoro no fue enterrado en una isla, sino en las bodegas de los barcos que transportaron a millones de africanos a trav\u00e9s del Atl\u00e1ntico y los vendieron como esclavos.<\/p>\n

Lo que escap\u00f3 a ser tesoro qued\u00f3 enterrado en el mar, unos 1,2 – 2,4 millones de cad\u00e1veres que murieron durante las traves\u00edas.<\/p>\n

Los aventureros de La isla del tesoro parten de Bristol, importante puerto mar\u00edtimo para el comercio de esclavos, y pocos a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s de la publicaci\u00f3n del libro se erigi\u00f3 en la ciudad un monumento en honor a Edward Colston. Fue vicegobernador de una compa\u00f1\u00eda que transport\u00f3 a unos 84.000 africanos y, tras la abolici\u00f3n de la esclavitud, se pagaron m\u00e1s de 2.000 millones de libras, en dinero actual, a los propietarios de esclavos de Bristol.<\/p>\n

Las im\u00e1genes de Bayjoo llevan al lector de Bristol a paisajes tropicales marcados por las plantaciones y la brutalidad end\u00e9mica del Caribe colonial del siglo XVIII. Del mismo modo que los africanos eran una fuente de tesoros para disfrute de quienes los esclavizaban, los cinco h\u00e9roes de \u201cTreasure island\u201d <\/em>regresan de su aventura con una inmensa fortuna para financiar sus futuros estilos de vida como respetables caballeros. La violencia y la expropiaci\u00f3n que hicieron posible su riqueza pudieron dejarse discretamente de lado.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/strong>El jurado del caso de los Cuatro de Colston no lo olvid\u00f3 y absolvi\u00f3 a los manifestantes que fueron acusados en 2020 por ayudar a derribar el monumento en Bristol.<\/p>\n

El tribunal de apelaci\u00f3n, que no puede anular el veredicto, declar\u00f3 que el derribo de la estatua era un acto \u00abviolento\u00bb, recordando la pregunta de Brecht: \u00ab\u00bfQu\u00e9 es el atraco a un banco comparado con la fundaci\u00f3n de un banco?\u00bb.<\/p>\n
