Murphy lleva veinticinco a\u00f1os fotografiando Govanhill, un barrio de Glasgow, y sus im\u00e1genes son convincentes. Los individuos no reniegan de su individualidad y se comportan sin ostentaci\u00f3n en los espacios p\u00fablicos, sabiendo que un desconocido quiere fotografiarlos.<\/p>\n

Para los habitantes de Glasgow de clase media blanca, Govanhill no tiene buena reputaci\u00f3n y s\u00f3lo por eso ya es una zona interesante. Decididamente obrera y \u00e9tnicamente mixta, las tiendas de Govanhill que aparecen en el fondo de las fotos suelen estar relacionadas con transferencias de dinero, servicios de carga y tarjetas sim prepago. Es una zona libre de Waitrose.<\/p>\n

La zona lleva mucho tiempo atrayendo a gente de fuera, no s\u00f3lo de otras regiones de Escocia, sino tambi\u00e9n del norte de Irlanda, de zonas asoladas por la pobreza del sur de Italia y de Europa del Este. Tambi\u00e9n se han instalado aqu\u00ed asi\u00e1ticos orientales, junto con gitanos, solicitantes de asilo y refugiados. El n\u00famero de lenguas habladas en Govanhill es legi\u00f3n. \"\"<\/em>Murphy vivi\u00f3 all\u00ed muchos a\u00f1os y ha recorrido sus calles con su c\u00e1mara para registrar momentos aut\u00e9nticos de una comunidad viva y animada. \u00abMe encanta la diversidad, pero no me gusta el simbolismo\u00bb, dice, y su enfoque es cualquier cosa menos sociol\u00f3gico. Tal escena contrasta fuertemente con la foto de Murphy que tambi\u00e9n aparece en la portada de su libro. Muestra a un hombre de pie en la acera, presumiblemente un artista callejero, vestido de negro con un cuello blanco con volantes y un extra\u00f1o sombrero con la forma de la cabeza puntiaguda de una criatura que ense\u00f1a los dientes. La sombra inconexa de esta figura en la pared detr\u00e1s de \u00e9l es a\u00fan m\u00e1s peculiar y no hay ninguna pista de por qu\u00e9 est\u00e1 all\u00ed en la acera.
