El drama no comienza con el apag\u00f3n de las luces, sino con un actor en el escenario que pronuncia un mon\u00f3logo que a veces se convierte en una conferencia sobre la extra\u00f1a naturaleza de la memoria. Es un comienzo extra\u00f1o para una obra de teatro, y lo es a\u00fan m\u00e1s cuando se pide al p\u00fablico, bien familiarizado con la necesidad de apagar los tel\u00e9fonos, que deposite su m\u00f3vil en una peque\u00f1a bolsa que le esperaba en su asiento al llegar. A continuaci\u00f3n, se abre otra bolsita para que el p\u00fablico participe con una venda en los ojos y una hoja.<\/p>\n

La mnemotecnia trata de la memoria y de la forma en que sirve de migraci\u00f3n mental en nuestra b\u00fasqueda de identidad y significado. Nacemos de dos padres, cuatro abuelos, ocho bisabuelos y as\u00ed sucesivamente hasta llegar a m\u00e1s de 2.000 novenos bisabuelos. En el marco de los \u00faltimos 400 a\u00f1os, llegamos a doce generaciones, lo que equivale a 4.094 antepasados. Si uno solo de ellos hubiera tenido relaciones sexuales con otro de nuestros antepasados, hoy no estar\u00edamos aqu\u00ed.<\/p>\n

\u00bfQu\u00e9 probabilidades hay de que usted o yo estemos emparentados con el hombre que muri\u00f3 cerca de la frontera entre lo que hoy es Italia y Austria? Debido al calentamiento global, su cuerpo apareci\u00f3 de entre el hielo alpino en 1991. La autopsia determin\u00f3 que ten\u00eda m\u00e1s de 5.000 a\u00f1os. El misterio de qui\u00e9n era y por qu\u00e9 y c\u00f3mo muri\u00f3 es uno de los dos temas principales de Mnemonic.<\/p>\n

La segunda narrativa se refiere a la desaparici\u00f3n de una mujer, Alice, que fue vista por \u00faltima vez en el funeral de su madre. Hab\u00eda partido en busca del padre que nunca conoci\u00f3, dejando a su marido sin pistas sobre su paradero hasta que recibe una llamada suya de improviso.<\/p>\n

Estas dos narraciones, aparentemente inconexas, proporcionan el argumento de lo que se desarrolla en el teatro Oliver como la dramatizaci\u00f3n de un concepto -la memoria- a trav\u00e9s de la met\u00e1fora del viaje. El hombre encontrado en el hielo estaba de viaje y una de las escenas m\u00e1s divertidas de la obra es cuando un grupo de \u00abexpertos\u00bb discute sobre qui\u00e9n era, ad\u00f3nde iba y c\u00f3mo muri\u00f3. Alice tambi\u00e9n emprende un viaje personal y el p\u00fablico comparte su odisea hacia el pasado mientras intenta descubrir la verdad sobre sus padres.<\/p>\n

Como pieza teatral, Mnemonic es asombrosamente buena y la coreograf\u00eda y el uso de siluetas para contar la historia son deslumbrantemente eficaces. Quiz\u00e1 no tenga tanto \u00e9xito a la hora de sondear la cuesti\u00f3n de c\u00f3mo y por qu\u00e9 cada uno de nosotros construye el banco de recuerdos que tiene. Las respuestas a ese enigma no est\u00e1n enterradas a 3.000 metros de altura en los Alpes, sino en el hielo del inconsciente.<\/p>\n
