Cerca de 80.000 chilenos a\u00fan viven en Europa exiliados desde la Dictadura de Pinochet. Muchas v\u00edctimas,\u00a0 a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s, reclaman responsabilidades y justicia a un Gobierno chileno \u201cdesinteresado\u201d en la causa.<\/p>\n

La mirada de Leopoldo Garc\u00eda\u00a0 refleja la tristeza de su pasado. Las cicatrices de su rostro, la falta de dientes en su boca o sus problemas de audici\u00f3n, son huellas imborrables de las torturas que hace cuarenta a\u00f1os sufri\u00f3. Lleg\u00f3 al Reino Unido junto a su mujer y sus tres hijas. Su amistad y cercan\u00eda a Salvador Allende provoc\u00f3 que el rumbo de su vida cambiara radicalmente con la llegada del dictador al poder.<\/p>\n

\u00c9l forma parte del mill\u00f3n de personas que buscaron refugio en el exterior a partir de 1973. Todos ellos escapando de la muerte, la violencia y las desapariciones que el autoritario Pinochet fue sembrando en el pa\u00eds suramericano.<\/p>\n

Desde Gran Breta\u00f1a, pide justicia. Con la ayuda de\u00a0 una organizaci\u00f3n sin fines de lucro que busca justicia y reparaci\u00f3n para sobrevivientes de tortura, acudi\u00f3 a la Corte Interamericana de Derechos Humanos para reclamar justicia y una reparaci\u00f3n adecuada por el da\u00f1o sufrido por \u00e9l y su familia.<\/p>\n

\u201cEstoy destrozado y, aunque estoy vivo a la vez estoy muerto\u201d, con estas palabras Garc\u00eda describe su estado de \u00e1nimo. \u201cCreo que el caballero de arriba (en alusi\u00f3n a Dios) lo hizo mal, hay cosas que no ten\u00edan que haber pasado nunca. El mundo tiene que saberlo\u201d.<\/p>\n

Antes de su arresto, en septiembre de 1973, su vida era normal. Gozaba de un empleo bien remunerado, de felicidad, de hogar, de un proyecto de vida estable. Su presencia en los medios de comunicaci\u00f3n y su militancia en la izquierda lo situaban cerca del ex presidente.<\/p>\n

El mundo lo tiene que saber<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pero su afinidad pol\u00edtica y su relevancia social provocaron que a los cinco d\u00edas del Golpe de Estado fuera detenido. Fue el inicio, tanto para Leopoldo Garc\u00eda como para su familia, de una vida llena de barreras y de injusticias.<\/p>\n

\u201cFui arrestado en el centro de Santiago, me esposaron y me golpearon durante toda la noche en la cabeza, pod\u00eda haber muerto. Con la culata de la escopeta me hicieron la cicatriz que tengo en la frente. Quer\u00edan televisar mi detenci\u00f3n, pero mi rostro ensangrentado hizo que cambiaran de opini\u00f3n\u201d.<\/p>\n

\"\"El al igual que otros miles de presos, pas\u00f3 por los diferentes campos de concentraci\u00f3n que fueron apareciendo en el pa\u00eds. Recuerda los gritos de los retenidos a la fuerza y los silbidos en el aire que provocaban las balas al ser disparadas.<\/p>\n

En la conversaci\u00f3n con The Prisma<\/strong> revive los trabajos forzosos a los que fue sometido, al igual que sus d\u00edas en el Estadio Nacional, un recinto deportivo que se convirti\u00f3 en c\u00e1rcel y cuyas gradas ocultaban al mundo entero las torturas y el horror que se comet\u00edan en su interior.<\/p>\n

\u201cNos sacaban al terreno de juego de nueve de la noche hasta las siete de la madrugada, ten\u00edamos que estar de pie todo el tiempo. A quien se rend\u00eda le disparaban\u201d.<\/p>\n

Su salida forzosa de Chile se produjo en 1975, pero durante su retenci\u00f3n malvivi\u00f3 en cuatro diferentes campos de concentraci\u00f3n durante un total de 20 meses.<\/p>\n

\"\"\u201cYo fui uno de los primeros expulsados por Pinochet, \u00e9ramos considerados peligrosos por nuestra forma de pensar. Yo nunca he hecho nada malo, ayudar a la gente necesitada nunca ha sido un delito\u201d.<\/p>\n

Abandon\u00f3 su pa\u00eds natal \u201ccon gran amargura\u201d, y lo hizo junto a su mujer y sus hijas. Narra que su vida en Reino Unido no fue nada f\u00e1cil. Se enfrent\u00f3 a un nuevo idioma, a casos de racismo, e incluso, su incapacidad le impidi\u00f3 trabajar para poder sustentar adecuadamente a su familia.<\/p>\n

Durante su exilio, se ha sentido psicol\u00f3gicamente y emocionalmente culpable del destino al que ha arrastrado a sus hijas y a su esposa. Ninguna de ellas pudo ir a la universidad ni cumplir muchos sue\u00f1os.<\/p>\n

Adem\u00e1s, seg\u00fan representantes de la organizaci\u00f3n, a pesar de que en 1990 la democracia volvi\u00f3 a Chile y tras ello su gobierno ha realizado algunos intentos de investigar atrocidades pasadas y proveer reparaci\u00f3n a algunas v\u00edctimas, \u201cnadie ha sido acusado nunca formalmente por los abusos que \u00e9l sufri\u00f3\u201d.<\/p>\n

Garc\u00eda le est\u00e1 pidiendo a la Corte, entre otras cosas,\u00a0 que ordene a Chile investigar, perseguir y castigar a las personas responsables de forma diligente.<\/p>\n

Aunque es optimista, Leopoldo declara que \u201cen Chile no hay justicia ni Estado de Derecho, porque lo que estamos hablando se tendr\u00eda que haber solucionado hace 40 a\u00f1os, y el Gobierno de Chile nunca se ha preocupado verdaderamente por mi situaci\u00f3n\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cYo no estoy pidiendo dinero, aunque es vital para vivir y comer. No he tenido nunca para pagarme un abogado. Mis ahorros desaparecieron. Confi\u00f3 que con la ayuda de esta organizaci\u00f3n ganemos el caso\u201d, a\u00f1ade.<\/p>\n

\"\"\u201cMe siento frustrado\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Leopoldo o \u2018Felistoque\u2019, como era llamado bajo seud\u00f3nimo por Allende, asegura a The Prisma<\/strong> que a pesar de todos los problemas e injusticias que ha tenido que vivir, el trato que ha recibido por parte del Reino Unido como refugiado pol\u00edtico es \u201csobresaliente\u201d.<\/p>\n

Para Leopoldo es injusto que Chile se desentienda del caso, entre otras razones, bajo el pretexto de que en Chile ya existe un programa de reparaciones para v\u00edctimas de la dictadura, del que \u00e9l se ha beneficiado en parte. Un hombre que desde la lejan\u00eda sue\u00f1a cada d\u00eda con regresar a su tierra, pero en sus sue\u00f1os o en cualquier lugar, no deja de recordar su triste pasado. Dice que sin Pinochet el destino de Chile hubiera sido \u201cmaravilloso\u201d, y sin duda, su vida hubiera tenido otro color.<\/p>\n
