World inaction in the face of genocide and ethnic cleansing

Subjecting its population to hunger, thirst, disease, misery and death is a strategy that is not only Israel’s fault. Palestine is the main victim. Meanwhile, in the West Bank, Netanyahu’s government is unabashedly pushing ahead with extensive land expropriation and Jewish housing construction.

Israel is preventing access to water, medicine and food, and is even killing humanitarian workers, Kholoud Al-Obaidi, a political scientist and international law specialist, told the daily Al Quds.

While the world does not remain silent, governments, especially Arab governments, must play a stronger and more effective role against a regime that continues to commit crimes against the Palestinian people, he stressed.

For his part, Egyptian analyst Rifaat Sayed Ahmed said that the ongoing genocide in the coastal enclave is planned, devised and approved not only by the US. He considered that there is a plan by Western powers to empty Gaza and stated that the target is not only the Islamic Resistance Movement, but the territory. The writer Mustafa Ibrahim, who criticised the role of Washington and several of its allies in the conflict, such as Britain, France and Germany, expressed a similar view.

In his view, there is also complicity on the part of Arab countries because they failed to exert real pressure on the US and Europe.

Abdul Rahim Jamous, president of the General Union of Palestinian Jurists, called for urgent action by the international community to save the population in Gaza.

In the face of the unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe there, and with growing warnings of imminent famine and a total collapse of the health sector, he appealed ‘to every conscientious person in the world: save Gaza before death closes the chapters of the tragedy’.

If the suffocating confinement continues, the entire medical sector is threatened with total collapse, meaning that thousands of sick and injured people will be left without treatment or hope of life, he warned. On the other hand, the Palestinian Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission condemned the Israeli government’s expansionist campaign in the occupied West Bank, amid widespread land expropriation and Jewish housing construction.

The Palestinian body claimed that every week the Palestinian authorities are approving the construction of more housing in Jewish settlements in the West Bank. All this comes in light of changes implemented by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, which removed the requirement of defence minister approval for every stage of the development of construction plans.

In the last two years, after the formation of the most right-wing executive in Israel’s history, we have witnessed a change, with the Supreme Planning Council now approving hundreds of housing units every week at every meeting, he stressed. According to the Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics, more than 770,000 Jews live in the West Bank, distributed in 180 settlements and 256 outposts.

Palestinian analyst Salah Al-Khawaja denounced the Israeli government’s strategy to accelerate the occupation of the territory, despite international criticism of the campaign. Salah claimed that the entire West Bank is subject to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s expansionist offensive.

In recent years there has been an escalation and expansion of Jewish settlements, he warned. A few days ago, Khalil al-Tafakji, also an expert on the subject, warned that the policy of annexation of the West Bank is underway through systematic measures including ethnic cleansing, land confiscation and accelerated expansion of Jewish settlements. On the subject, he criticised Israeli attempts to divide Palestinian areas by expropriating land and building Jewish colonies and roads. PL
