Jorge Navarrete… a migrant, a worker, a father

Ecuadorian by birth, he has been working as a plumber in London for two years. Although he does not speak English fluently, he works hard here for the sake of his child.

Like most of the foreigners looking for a better life and a brighter future, he first moved from Latin America to Spain and later he moved to the United Kingdom with his wife and son.

Never experiencing any kind of discrimination, he seems quite happy about the situation he has in this country so far, as well as the fact that England provides more job opportunities to people like him and the whole Latin community than his hometown can offer. To him, the majority of immigrants from South America come here to take the advantage of the economy of a better developed land and the Latin-American community is not very strongly-united.

As for Brexit, he expressed that currently no law has stated, with certainty, the policy for immigrants. “We cannot say anything about it but wait to see what is going to happen,” he adds.

Jorge, a father, and like many fathers in this world, the simplest and his biggest wish is giving the best he can to his child. When asked what his future plan is he answers “Staying here for the future of my young son” and patted the head of the little boy sitting next to him with fondness. These ordinary individuals, migrate to a foreign country, overcome cultural and language barrier and strive for the future not only of themselves but also those who they care about through their diligence, perseverance and endurance.
