The Prisma – The Multicultural Newspaper has been a beacon of ethical, bilingual (Spanish/English) journalism in the UK for 15 years. As the first weekly bilingual newspaper dedicated to immigrants, we have published thousands of articles, interviews, and investigations on human rights, racism, refugees, and immigration laws—stories often ignored or misrepresented by mainstream media.
Based in London, our global team of volunteers—journalists, photographers, translators, and designers—has built bridges between British society and immigrant communities, particularly Latin Americans, challenging prejudice and defending their dignity amidst a global migration crisis and hostile policies.
Fifteen years of achievements speak for themselves. In 2022, we won the International Reporting of the Year journalism award from the Independent Media Association (IMA). In 2013, we hosted in Westminster the first multicultural debate in the House of Commons, entitled “Multiculturalism in the UK: Does it Have a Future?” to a full house. Outlets like The Guardian have recognised our impact. We are members of Independent Media Association (IMA), Impress, and the Coalition of Latin Americans in the UK (CLAUK), and we co-founded the Latin American Recognition Campaign (LARC), which achieved official recognition of Latin American identity in two London boroughs.
However, after 15 years of volunteer-led work, The Prisma faces a crisis. While our website is currently online, a unique historical archive on immigration in the UK remains inaccessible. More than 8,000 articles written over a decade are currently unavailable due to past cyberattacks—though recovered, they still need to be restored and published. In addition, we need funds to maintain the website, cover administrative costs and, for the first time, offer modest remuneration to a minimal team to ensure our sustainability. Without support, The Prisma risks disappearing at a time when its voice is more vital than ever to counter fake news and hostile narratives against immigrants.
Join our 2025 Fundraising Campaign
To mark our 15th anniversary, we are launching a fundraising campaign through crowdfunding and ethical donations. The Prisma must continue its essential work.
We need passionate, ethical, and well-organised volunteers to dedicate a few hours or days a week (remotely) to make this campaign a success. We are looking for individuals with experience or interest in fundraising, social media management, digital marketing, or creative campaign writing.
Why join us?
You will be part of a unique, professional project that fights fake news, amplifies immigrant voices, and defends their rights—a platform that connects Latin America and the UK through their stories.
You will also help recover 10,000 articles documenting their lives and strengthen a media outlet that inspires others to speak out. In a world where mainstream media often stigmatises immigrants, The Prisma offers them a voice and a platform where their stories can be told.
What do you gain by getting involved?
- Be part of a pioneering newspaper focused on immigrants, refugees, and multiculturalism. You will receive a letter of recommendation for your contribution.
- Your photo and a short biography will feature in our “About Us”
- This is an unpaid volunteer role, but if we reach our fundraising goal, we aim to distribute a percentage of the funds as a token of appreciation.
