The Prisma is seeking volunteers for its fundraising campaign

Join Our 2025 Fundraising Campaign! On our 15th anniversary, we are launching a fundraising campaign through crowdfunding and ethical donations. The Prisma must continue its essential work.

  • Do you speak Spanish, English, or both? Are you eager to join a multicultural, ethical, and independent newspaper, unique in the UK and entirely run by volunteers?
  • Would you like to help strengthen it to ensure it remains the voice for immigrants in the UK?
  • Do you have experience or skills in fundraising, social media, or digital marketing?
  • Can you commit one or two days a week, remotely, to this fundraising campaign.

If your answer is “YES”, this is a unique opportunity to work with The Prisma, a weekly bilingual (English/Spanish) newspaper celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. Created by professionals from diverse fields, our aim is to foster connections between the Latin American community, other immigrant communities, and British society.

This is an exciting opportunity for driven and ambitious individuals seeking to gain experience in a British media project committed to diversity.
It’s a flexible role: you can work from home.

WHAT DO YOU GAIN BY PARTICIPATING?

  • Although it is an unpaid volunteer role, if we reach our goal, we will share a percentage of the funds raised with the team as an incentive and token of appreciat  ion.
  • Excellent references and/or certifications of your work once you have completed your task.
  • Your photo and a brief biography in our “About Us” section of The Prisma website.

OUR STORY

The Prisma – The Multicultural Newspaper has been a benchmark for bilingual (Spanish/English), ethical, independent, and pioneering journalism in the UK for 15 years. As the first weekly bilingual newspaper dedicated to immigrant communities, we have published thousands of articles, interviews, investigations, and columns on human rights, racism, refugees, immigration laws, and issues often ignored or stigmatised by mainstream media.

From London, our global team of volunteers—editors, journalists, columnists, photographers, translators, and designers—has built bridges between British society and immigrant communities, particularly Latin Americans, challenging prejudice and advocating for their dignity, labour, and civil rights.
This work has been carried out amidst a migration crisis and hostile policies towards immigrants.

Fifteen years of achievements underpin our work. In 2022, we won the International Reporting of the Year award from the Independent Media Association (IMA). In 2013, we hosted the first multicultural debate in the House of Commons in Westminster, titled “Multiculturalism in the UK: Does It Have a Future?”, to a full house. Various media outlets, including The Guardian, have recognised our efforts for and with immigrant communities.

We are proud members of the Independent Media Association (IMA), Impress, and the Coalition of Latin Americans in the UK (CLAUK). We were also co-founders of the Latin American Recognition Campaign (LARC), which secured official recognition of Latin American identity in two London boroughs.

WHY DO WE NEED YOUR HELP?

After 15 years of voluntary work, The Prisma faces a crisis. Although our website remains online, a unique historical archive on immigration in the UK is currently inaccessible. Over 8,000 articles written across a decade cannot be accessed due to previous cyberattacks, which we overcame, but the content still requires restoration.

We also need funds to maintain the website, cover administrative costs (such as server fees, accounting, and Impress membership), and, for the first time, provide modest remuneration for a small core team to ensure sustainability. This team will manage social media, website maintenance, editing, translation, and journalistic content.

Without support, The Prisma risks disappearing at a time when its voice is more vital than ever to counter fake news and hostile narratives against immigrant communities.
