With 50 years performing and being politically committed, it is extraordinary that he is not well-known in Europe. He was imprisoned in 1977 during the dictatorship in Brazil, and didn’t record any music for 10 years afterwards. At the 1974 concert, he had read a satirical poem about a chick (pinto). ‘Pinto’ is also Brazilian slang for penis, and was the name of a member of the military government. After the show, many people were arrested.
In the suburb of San Antonio de Escazú, this Cuban painter’s house looks a lot like one of his pictures. It was drawn, line by line, using the same technique used for his large format landscapes.
Having gone through stages of questioning her future vocation and numerous difficulties that followed, thanks to her strong passion and tenacity, she finally brought us this great movie, her debut feature, “Children of the mountain”.
